NUCP STATEMENT ON SERIES OF BOMBINGS IN MINDANAO

The National Ulama Conference of the Philippines (NUCP) expresses its vehement condemnation to the recent bombings in Cotabato, Iligan and Jolo which claimed a dozen lives and at least a hundred wounded. The NUCP is deeply alarmed by these bombing incidents which occurred on July 5 and 6, 2009 - a span of two days.

The current spate of bombings in Mindanao has created wide concern and undue fear among our people. The evil hand has again shown its sinister design to perpetuate death and destruction among the innocent. The bombings have to stop. The carnage has to end.

We urge our people to join the cry in condemning the inhuman attack on civilians and the affront to peace and harmonious co-existence between Muslims and Christians. We beseech upon concerned government authorities to be vigilant in the search for perpetrators of these unkindly crimes of humanity. We implore the media and the military not to be quick in implicating groups or individuals to the incidents without proper investigation on the matter.

In the face of this tragedy, we need to seek Divine Guidance from Allah Almighty so that we may be guided by His Infinite Wisdom in confronting the challenge of resisting evil and waging peace in Mindanao. We pray and ask Allah’s help so that we may confront our problems with steadfastness and firmness in faith. We pray:
“Almighty Allah, Thou art Peace. From you comes Peace, and to You does Peace return. Let us live in Peace, O Allah. And make us enter Paradise, the Abode of Peace, by Your Mercy.” Ameen.
